Medicaid Enrollment, Average Monthly Enrollment as a Percentage of the Population by County, All Persons, New Mexico,
Indicator Report Data View Options
Why Is This Important?
Medicaid provides health coverage for those New Mexicans living below a certain percentage of the federal poverty level, and provides coverage for almost half of New Mexico's children. People with health coverage are more likely to receive preventive medical care and are consequently less likely to suffer from preventable illnesses and complications of those illnesses.
Definition
The monthly percentage of the population enrolled in Medicaid, averaged over the months in the measurement period. Enrollment varies from one month to the next. The average monthly enrollment was used to compute these percentages.
Data Notes
New Mexico Medicaid enrollment by county is from the NM Human Services Department, and includes all adults and children who were enrolled at any time during the month. The U.S. value, from the Kaiser Family Foundation State Health Facts website, reflects the average of the number enrolled on the last day of each month.Data Sources

New Mexico Population Estimates
All population estimates apply to July 1 of the selected year. These estimates are considered the most accurate estimates for the state of New Mexico and should match those found on the University of New Mexico Geospatial and Population Studies website. Estimates include decimal fractions. Census tract population estimates were summed to produce County and Small Area population estimates. Population estimate totals may vary due to rounding. Population estimates for previous years are occasionally revised as new information becomes available. When publishing trend data, always be sure that your rates for earlier years match current rates on NM-IBIS that have been calculated with the most up-to-date population estimates.
