Restrictions/conditions:

From then on, those selections are automatically applied (as much as possible) to all subsequent queryable datasets you open.

Name Field

Unique name of this query definition. The name value needs to be a unique value within YOUR list of saved query definitions. The name value is used as part of the HTTP request URL to reference this query definition.

It is recommend you name your definitions in a consistent manner to help referencing and sharing with others. Names can be up to 250 characters long and can not contain spaces or special characters. Valid values for a name include upper and/or lower case alphabetic characters (A-z), and/or numeric values (0-9), and/or a dash or underscore that can be used as a seperator ("-", and/or "_").

If you name this definition the same name as an existing definition you will overwrite the current definition with this new one.

Title Field

The title value is the title you will see on your query definition selection lists. It is recommended that you keep your titles and unique so that they are meaningful, consistent, and easily identifyable. Titles can be a maximum length of 250 characters long. Use the "Description" field to list any extra details or notes that you'd like to have associated with this definition.

Description Field

    This query includes cases of Severe Maternal Morbidity among in-hospital deliveries where the discharge record specifies a diagnosis or procedure indicating Severe Maternal Morbidity and opioid use diagnosis during delivery hospitalization.

Data Issues

  • Confidence Intervals for Zero Values

    For rates where the count is zero, a numerator of "3" was used to calculate the confidence interval (per Lilienfeld and Stolley, __Foundations of Epidemiology__, 1994, p. 303).

  • Inclusion Criteria

    To be included in the analysis, the person must be female, aged 12 to 55 and have given birth in a community hospital. People who live out of state and who gave birth in one of the reporting institutions are excluded from the query by default but may be included using the query builder page.

    In-hospital delivery is determined using ICD-10 coding for diagnosis or procedures. It is defined as any diagnosis or procedure indicating live birth, delivery, or cesarean delivery. If the record also includes abortion, ectopic pregnancy or other events that are not births, they are excluded. Specific codes can be found at: [[Updated-AIM-SMM-Code-List_10152021.xlsx (live.com)]]

  • Unit of Analysis

    The unit of analysis is the in-hospital delivery event. The date (year) of the event is the discharge date.

  • New Mexico Hospital Inpatient Discharge Database (HIDD)

    This query includes only deliveries in 'community' hospitals in New Mexico. Community hospitals are defined as short-term, non-Federal, general, and other hospitals, excluding hospital units of other institutions (e.g., prisons). Community hospitals that provide long-term care are excluded. Indian Health Services hospitals and other federally funded hospitals are not required to report hospital inpatient data to the New Mexico Department of Health and are therefore excluded.
