New Mexico ED Visits Data

The emergency department visit data in this IBIS-Q query module are maintained by the New Mexico Department of Health, Health Systems Epidemiology Program in the Epidemiology and Response Division. They include all non-federal acute care emergency department visits in New Mexico.

    • ED Standard Query Selections

      Emergency Department (ED) data Standard Query selections provide a menu of predetermined primary diagnosis categories, such as Major Diagnostic Categories, and presents results by year, county, age, sex and race/ethnicity.

      • ED Visits - Counts
      • Crude Rates

        This module returns the number of emergency department visits, the number in the population, the crude rate (visits per 10,000 persons), and the upper and lower 95% confidence interval limits for the rate.

      • Age-Adjusted Rates

        This module returns the number of emergency department visits, the number in the population, the age-adjusted ED visit rate (visits per 10,000 persons, age-standardized to the U.S. 2000 population), and the upper and lower 95% confidence interval limits for the rate.

    • ED Indicators

      Emergency Department (ED) data indicators are commonly-requested diagnoses, such as TBI and diabetes, and presents results by primary versus secondary/other diagnoses, in addition to year, county, age, sex and race/ethnicity.

      • Heart Disease Definition

        Diagnoses for heart disease include ICD codes ICD9: 390-398, 402, 404, and 410-429, ICD10: I00-I09, I11, I13, and I20-I52. Those codes include rheumatic, ischemic, pulmonary, and selected forms of hypertensive heart disease, as well as selected other forms of coronary heart disease.

      • Cerebrovascular Disease (Stroke) Definition

        Diagnoses for cerebrovascular disease (stroke) include ICD codes ICD9: 430-434, 436-438, ICD10: I60-I69. Those codes include cerebral hemorrhage and infarction, and occlusion and stenosis of the cerebral arteries and their sequelae.

      • Diabetes Definition

        Diabetes diagnoses include ICD codes ICD9: 250, ICD10: E10-E14.

      • Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease Definition

        Diagnoses for chronic lower respiratory disease include ICD codes ICD9: 490-494, 496, ICD10: J40-J45, J47. Those codes include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema and chronic bronchitis), asthma, bronchiectasis, as well as other chronic airway obstruction.

      • Influenza and Pneumonia Definition

        Diagnoses for influenza and pneumonia include ICD codes ICD9: 480-488, ICD10: J09-J18. Those codes include influenza and viral and bacterial pneumonia.

      • Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis Definition

        Diagnoses for chronic liver disease include ICD codes ICD9: 571, ICD10: K70, K73-K74. Those codes include alcoholic liver disease, chronic hepatitis, and fibrosis and cirrhosis or the liver.

      • Alcohol Dependence Definition

        Diagnoses for alcohol-related disorders include ICD codes ICD9: 303 (alcohol dependence syndrome), ICD10: F10 (alcohol-related disorders).

      • Asthma Definition

        Diagnoses for asthma include ICD codes ICD9: 493.8-493.9, ICD10: J45.2-J45.5. Those codes exclude exercise-induced asthma and bronchiectasis.

      • Septicemia Definition

        Diagnoses for septicemia include ICD codes ICD9: 038, ICD10: A40-A41. Those codes include Streptococcal, Staphylococcal, and other forms of septicemia.

      • Traumatic Brain Injury Definition

        Diagnoses for traumatic brain injury include ICD codes ICD9: 800-801, 803-804, 850-854.1, 950-950.3, 995.55, 959.01, ICD10: S02.0,S02.1,S02.8,S02.91,S04.02,S04.03,S04.04, S06, S07.1, T74.4. Those codes include fracture or crushing injury to the skull, injury to the cranial nerve, optic nerve, visual cortex, and intracranial injury.
